De-stashing. Unsuccessfully.

I was doing so well. I went through the stash, listed all the yarn of which I had sensible amounts, thought up possible projects for most of it, and steeled myself to throw away a bunch of random mohair that had been bequeathed from someone else de-stashing. An hour later I was fishing it out of the bin and casting it on. Why, is a mystery. I’d forgotten it was there, would never have thought about it again, and I already know I don’t have enough for the thing I’ve cast on (a striped blanket). And yet I’m still knitting on it.

Partly that’s because I remembered a mad technique that was popular for about five minutes in the mid-80s where you use one enormous needle and one small one. It’s working quite well with the brushed mohair because it lets the fluffiness come through, and also it grows like Topsy without you really noticing – each pair of rows is about 1cm. The other part though, is because I seem to be constitutionally incapable of throwing away yarn. Even the strands I cut off when I’m sewing up a project give me a pang. I guess I’ll just knit till the yarn’s gone and then see what I’ve got.
