… knitting is getting underway again. First finished object since the baby came home is a shrug that she won’t be able to wear for a while.
Having seen how fast she grows out of stuff (I’m sure it is not news to most people that babies grow quick) I would like things that I knit her to have a lifespan of rather more than ten minutes, so it’s ‘to grow into’. I suspect that the First Coat that I knitted over the winter from Debbie Bliss’s Essential Baby will come into the category of ten-minute items. At the moment it looks ridiculously large on her but will probably fit her for all of two weeks before looking ridiculously small. Still, at least it can be handed on to other babies of whatever gender!
The shrug is this free Debbie Bliss pattern from Prima magazine, but also appears in another Debbie Bliss book Simply Baby. I knitted it in Violet Green’s Bluefaced Leicester Aran in lavender. It took about a skein and a half to knit the largest size. It’s knitted up rather loosely – I suspect that the aran isn’t quite aran – but I like it anyway. Very much liking the colour variation in the yarn as well.
